Keep Moving Forward
By Greg Sanders
My dad shared with me a story from his younger years. Either He or one of his buddies had a car that would only go in drive. So every time they got ready to park, they would either have to park on a hill so that the car could roll backwards or park in a way that they could pull straight out. Needless to say, at times they would be stuck trying to push the car out of a spot so they could pull forward. I was thinking about that little tale when I pondered Hebrews 11:15. It reads, “ If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”
What difference would it make in life if we knew going backwards was not an option. How much time would we save by not second guessing our past and focusing more on what God has for us today and in the future. The book of Hebrews reminds us that focusing on the past tends to lead us back in that direction. One of the sure ways to move forward is by looking ahead.
Today’s Challenge: Don’t get trapped or distracted by looking backwards. Keep your eyes fixed on the promises of God that lie ahead.
Blessings,
Greg
