This is Not What I Imagined!

This is Not What I Imagined!

By Greg Sanders

Have you ever had something or some place built up in your mind to only be disappointed once you arrived? It has happened to me a couple of times with hotels. The pictures look great online, but then you arrive and realize that those pictures must have been doctored. It was not at all what you imagined. I’ve been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt. The same thing can happen when it comes to the things that God does in us and through us. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that God is misleading. I am saying that often the terrain between point A and B can be so rough that we forget what God promised in the first place. Raymond Edman said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.

Between the place where you receive a promise from God and the place where you see it fulfilled may not be all that you imagined. The prophet Samuel anointed King David to be king in front of his family. That had to be a highlight moment in his life. This prophet looked over all of his more qualified brothers and chose David. I am sure he began imagining breakfast in bed and royal chariot rides. But that is not exactly what happened next. What happened next was he went into exile. It was not as he imagined. In Psalm 27:10 David said, For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” David had a way of hanging onto the promise of God even when life got really dark. I hate to speak gloom and doom, but I know that dark days will come to us all. When those days come, don’t doubt in those dark moments what God has spoken to your heart.

Today’s Challenge: Rehearse the promises of God over your life. Don’t allow doubt to have the ruling word of your life today.

Blessings,

Greg
