Ignoring Something Does Not Make it Go Away.

Ignoring Something Does Not Make it Go Away.

By Greg Sanders

Some of the first childhood instruction I received regarding other people who were antagonistic was to “ignore them and they will go away.” Now that advice worked on 8 year olds. However, beyond the school yard that well known piece of advice gets very limited. The greater the issue is in your life, the less likely it is going to go away.

For example, when the scales says I weigh a little more then I should, I have discovered that ignoring the extra weight does not make it go away. When bills come in the mail, ignoring them does not make them go away. When the laundry piles up in the floor, trust me, ignoring them does not make them go away and in addition you will have an upset spouse. What you ignore does not go away.

Proverbs 8:33 says “Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don’t ignore it.” The scripture lets us know that ignoring truth is unwise. Ignoring truth will ultimately cost you more then you expected.  Rob Ketterling says it like this “Most of the time it’s what we choose to ignore that ends up unraveling all that we’ve been striving for and working to achieve.” What we think we have done a great job covering up and ignoring is actually working to undermine what we value most.
In the moment that is most inconvenient, the truth you have been ignoring shows up. What is the solution? Rather then ignoring truth, embrace it and respond to it. When you allow the truth to be directional, your destination will be much better.

Today’s Challenge: Examine your heart and see if there is a truth you have been ignoring. Stop making excuses and start embracing truth.

Blessings,

Greg
