Reserve Your Place
By Greg Sanders
Do you have a specific chair that is your spot at the dinner table? In my home sits the same table I used when I was a kid. It’s getting beat up and worn out, but the sentimental value just wont let me get rid of it. As a kid I had an assigned seat at that table. I am not really sure when those assignments were made but it was understood that Dad had his chair, mom had hers, and my sister and I had ours. Now that the table is in my house, I could sit anywhere I would like but guess where I sit? I sit in my same chair. There is no good reason for it except I just know it is where I belong. It is my spot and if you sit there I may ask you to move.
In Luke 10:20 Jesus says something about you having a specific place around His table. He said, “… Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” The greatest decision in life is your decision to follow Jesus. Upon receiving His grace for your life, your name is written in heaven reserving your place with Jesus for eternity. I like to think of it this way. Upon receiving Christ there is another chair placed just for you around the table of heaven. There is no person that can steal your chair or take your place. It is yours. Jesus said out of all the joy that comes from being used by Him in this life there is one greater joy. That greater joy is the promise that we have a place around His table.
Today’s Challenge: When life gets hard or you feel out of place, remember you have a secure place around His table. No trial or joy compares to the promise we have in Him. The greatest invitation you have or will ever receive is the invitation to spend eternity with Jesus. Have you reserved your place? If not, do so today. If you need to know where to start, I have included a sample prayer below.
Blessings,
Greg
“Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will.
In your name, Amen.”
