Christmas is evidence that God keeps His word
By Greg Sanders
Luke 2: 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
Luke 2: 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
When the Shepherds heeded the instructions of the angels, they found just what the angels told them they would find. They not only discovered the baby in a manger, they also discovered that God is trustworthy. They discovered that God keeps His word. Part of the process of receiving what you’re supposed to receive comes from following the instructions closely. You can be sure that when you follow Jesus you will always find what He promises you will find.
Notice that the confirmation of what the angels promised didn’t come until after the shepherds obeyed. We often want God to perform His word before we follow His word. It did not work that way for the shepherds. It often does not work that way for us. The way we discover that God keeps His word is by trusting His word enough to follow and obey it. God did not confirm His word to them in the field. He confirmed His word to them when they got to the manger. If they had stopped anywhere between the field and the manger, they would have not seen the promise of Jesus.
You may be thinking, Greg, I’ve started following Jesus and I have not yet found what He promised. Keep following. The shepherds followed until they found things to be exactly what was promised. So if things in your life are not what Jesus promise, here is the challenge: Keep Following. As you follow Him you will discover He always keeps His word.
Numbers 23:19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Today’s Challenge: Remember that God keeps His word. Pursue His promises by applying His word. If following Jesus has not yet produced His promises in your life, then do this one thing. Keep following Him in confidence that He keeps His word. One day you will be like the shepherds who said all things “are just as we were told.”
Blessings,
Greg
