Keeping In Step with The Holy Spirit

Lesson 3: Continue to Listen Step-by-Step.

To keep in step with the Holy Spirit you must continue to listen to Him for each step as much as you did the first step.

Acts 8:27…The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah. 29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” 30 Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

The same attentiveness it took to start you on your journey with the Holy Spirit must continue on along your journey. You never outgrow your dependency on hearing the voice of God. God is a communicating God. The Bible, from Genesis through Revelation, is evidence that God wants man in on what He is up to. The question is are we trained to hear His voice? Are there too many other voices competing with Him? Do not buy into the lie that He only speaks to “Super Christians” and you can’t hear Him. The truth is you can hear the voice of God.

Bill Hybels wrote in his book The Power of a Whisper, “My entire journey comes down to a series of unplanned promptings from heaven that have charted a course for my life even I never could have foreseen.”
Do you want a life that is better than you could have planned yourself? Do you want to live a life where God uses you in ways that you could not have even imagined? Then listen to the promptings, the nudges, and the whispers of His spirit. He is speaking! Listening step-by-step moves us from our abilities into His supernatural abilities.

How do I listen? Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Notice the Psalmist declares that the Lord is here only after he says to be still. Here is how it works. When we get still and when we get quiet, we become aware of His voice. Continue to listen to the Spirit of God as He leads us to greater things.

Today’s Challenge: Create a place and some space to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit today. He wants to speak to you today and guide you toward the abundant life He has prepared for you.
