Ditch Your Tumbleweed Experience
By Greg Sanders

Jeremiah 17:5-6 God’s Message: “Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, Who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He’s like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows. 7-8 “But blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers— Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, Serene and calm through droughts bearing fresh fruit every season.

God paints two pictures of people. One is like tumbleweed that gets blown from here to there and the other is a fruitful tree that produces fruit in every season. One is dried up and lifeless and the other continues to produce life year after year. Which do you think is the picture God desires our life to exhibit?
This picture is especially meaningful to me personally because I sincerely desire my life to produce fruit in every season. This includes the good seasons and the bad seasons and the young seasons and the older seasons. God lets us know the way to move from being like tumbleweeds that are blown by the winds of life to being like productive trees, and it is by putting our whole trust in Him.

How can we ditch our tumbleweed experience and experience God’s transformation into a tree planted by the water?

Step 4: Trusting God allows you to be fruitful in every season.

Your usefulness to the Kingdom of God is directly tied to your willingness to trust Him. This means that at every stage of your life, God is going to be calling you to trust Him in different ways. You never outgrow your need to trust God. He is going to challenge us to risk more, give me, serve more, and love more. You must know that when you trust Him you never lose. The only way you can lose is if you stop trusting Him.

I want to produce fruit in every season. There are some guys who I look up to who are in their 70-80’s still preaching God’s word, still leading their families, and still have God’s passion in their heart and in their lives. I want to be like that too. When I look closer at those men’s lives I see something else about them. I see that they are still risking it all. They are still taking steps of faith.

You cannot be fruitful if you stop taking steps of faith. It’s in those steps that God makes us fruitful. It is in those moments and seasons when I had no idea what I was doing that God did the most in and through my life. Think about your life for a moment. Have you become so risk adverse that it is stifling your fruitfulness in God’s Kingdom? God can make you fruitful in every season but it requires trust.

Today’s Challenge: Listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit and then trust Him by stepping out in obedience to His direction. It is in those moments that we step out in faith and trust that we experiences new levels of fruitfulness in our lives. Your trust in Him brings fruitfulness in every season.
