Intentionality Precedes Interest
By Greg Sanders
Your life should cultivate a desire in others to follow Christ. Jesus taught that you are the light of the world. You are the messenger of the greatest message on earth. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Jesus says to “let your light shine.” In others words, it is very easy to have the light and hide it. Perhaps this hiding is not done intentionally but the light can just be hidden by busyness, distractions, or self-focused living. The issue is that you must be intentional about letting your light shine so that others will be interested in hearing the message of Jesus.
If you are intentional about shining the light of the Father then that intentionality will drive you to involvement in peoples’ lives. Once you become involved in peoples’ lives you are going to discover how you can invest in them in ways that are most meaningful to them. This intentional investment will begin to open the door for you to present the Gospel. Once people see your genuine investment into them they will respond with real interest in your message.
One of the mistakes we make as believers is that we demand people to be interested in our message when we have not been intentional, when we haven’t made any relational investment, or when we haven’t done anything to cultivate real interest by our lifestyle. Intentionality on the believer’s part most often precedes the interest of an unbeliever in our message.
Today’s Challenge: Make an intentional investment into someone today. Begin to intentionally shine the light of Jesus into the lives of others. Consistency in this area will cause them to see your good works and have interest in your heavenly Father. |
