Go With What You’ve Got

Judges 6:14 Then the lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!”

One of the common denominators found in many of the people God chose to use throughout scripture is the sense of being under qualified and inadequate. However, man’s ability has never been a limitation for the power of God. God continues to use the weak to show His strength. He continues to use the uneducated to confound the wise and He continues to take those who are marginalized by society to transform a culture. If you ever feel like you are less than qualified to do something great for God, the good news is that you are in good company. Your limitation is no constraint for what God can do through you.

God told Gideon, “Go in the strength you have.” He did not say go join a gym to get stronger, take a class to get smarter, or gather an alliance of nations. He said what you have is enough. Remember, when God sends you to do His will, He expects you to do it in His power. You don’t need more of your own power; you need more of His power. Go in the strength that you have.

Don’t allow what you don’t have to keep you from obeying the instruction that you do have. Gideon did not have enough strength to win the battle, but he did have enough strength to get started. God gives you the strength you need when you need it and usually not a moment sooner.

Don’t allow what you don’t understand to keep you from obeying what you do understand. Gideon had his doubts. He even put God through a few tests to make sure he was hearing God correctly. Ultimately, Gideon obeyed even though He did not yet know how God would work this out.

Don’t fixate on what you can do; focus on what God can do through you. He is able to do abundantly above all you can imagine. If God is sending you, you can be sure He will enable you to do what He is sending you to do.

Today’s Challenge: Realize that God often tells us to embark on the mission before He shows us all His provision. His supply, power, and resources come as we go. Start today following the instruction God has spoken to your heart. Don’t allow what you can’t do, don’t know, or don’t have keep you from leveraging the wonderful thing you do have. You have God’s word. When you have His word, you can go with what you’ve got.
