Point it Out
By Greg Sanders

Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

I often pray this prayer in times of personally seeking the Lord. I have encouraged people for decades to pray this prayer as a way of drawing near to the heavenly Father. It is a great prayer for getting everything out in the open and submitting to the direction of the Lord for your life. In addition to providing a blue print for getting your life in sync with the desire of the Father, I am also convinced that this scripture accurately defines the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life every single day.

Today I want to challenge you to consider the Holy Spirit’s work in your life in view of this scripture.

  • Every day the Holy Spirit is examining your heart in full view. There is nothing hidden from Him. There is not an emotion or thought with which He is not totally familiar. That is good news for you because you never have to explain how you feel or what you have experienced. He knows exactly where you are. The evidence also provides accountability for us to present our needs to God in complete honesty. You cannot manipulate the situation and tilt it in a way that makes you look better or innocent. For better or for worse He knows the whole story.
  • Every day the Holy Spirit wants to trade your thoughts of anxiety for the peace of God. Every day the Holy Spirit is working on your behalf leading you to exchange your thoughts of worry for truths from God’s word. Make the exchange today. Trade your worries for His peace
  • Every day the Holy Spirit is point out what is not pleasing to the Father. The question is are you responding to His speaking? This process is called sanctification. Each day the Holy Spirit is shaping us and molding us to become more like Christ. Don’t ignore what He points out. If something matters to God then it should matter to us.
  • Every day the Holy Spirit is leading you to everlasting eternity with Christ. Today the Holy Spirit is leading you step by step to a present experience and a future eternity with Jesus. At times His leading may seem out of the way but you can rest assured that His path is perfect.

Today’s Challenge: Realize that the Holy Spirit is searching your life in order to make you pleasing to the Father and to lead you down the path He has prepared for you. Respond quickly to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
