Hold On Loosely
By Greg Sanders

1 Corinthians 7:31 says that “Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.”

There is nothing wrong with having great things as long as you keep a loose grip on them. You must remember that the things of this world will soon pass away. If you spend all your energy and effort into keeping things that cannot be kept, you will miss out on keeping those things that are eternal. You must examine your life, the things you have, and the activities in which you participate, and ask yourself which of these things will last beyond this life. When you identify those things that will last, you must hold tightly to those things, and hold loosely to everything else. Missionary Jim Elliot said that “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

What you do for God cannot be lost or stolen. Hold loosely to things that are temporal and tightly to things that last forever.

Today’s Challenge: Examine your recent stresses, success and obsessions. Are those things that you are seeking most eternal or temporal? Pray that today God will give you the wisdom to hold tightly to Him and to those things that matter most to Him and loosely to everything else.
