Don’t Hide Your Story
By Greg Sanders
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
You are a prime example of the great patience of God. Think about that statement. It sort of hits you between the eyes. That is exactly how Paul described himself, but if you are honest, you have to admit that it is true for you as well. We all require great patience on the part of God to keep Him from writing us off or giving up on the plan He has for our life. The good news is that God never does give up on us. He extends more grace to save us and in the process uses us as an example of the opportunity He has made available to everyone.
There are many people today who are convinced that they have traversed too far outside of God’s grace to ever be loved, redeemed, or restored. They are convinced that the depth of their past keeps them from receiving the hope that God has for their life. They need to hear your story. They need to know that your life required the great patience of God and understand that the same grace is available to them. Christians spend a lot of time trying to dress up the past and cover it with religious activity. However, it is in the honest presentation of how Christ transformed you that offers the world hope. Don’t feel like your story is inadequate. People don’t need to see an expert; they simply need to see your example.
Today’s Challenge: Realize that your past is not something to be ashamed of but instead is part of your testimony. The depth that Christ went to save you can witness to others of the truth that Jesus can offer hope to their life as well. Don’t hide the great work that Christ has done in you. Share it with others. |
