Show The Truth with Your Actions
By Greg Sanders
1 John 3:17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
You have heard it said that talk is cheap. The Bible backs up that assertion in relationship to helping those in need. John said don’t just say you love someone; show them with your actions. A love that is not demonstrated with action will not be received as sincere. Here are a few ways you can put your love into action this week.
1. What you see indicates where you are called to help.
You will see needs that no one else sees. People in real need are not always the ones you see begging in the street or knocking on your door. I am not downplaying anyone’s plight, but I will point out that God will often allow you to see a person who is suffering quietly. When God shows you a need, He often does so in order for you to be part of the solution. Don’t assume that everyone sees the need that you see.
2. You don’t have to bankrupt yourself to help another person.
God only asks you to help according to your ability. Remember that your comfort and your ability are two different things. He will often ask you to give to the point it hurts but not to the point that it harms your ability to provide for your own family.
3. Don’t just say you love someone; show them.
Realize that meeting people’s needs does not always require money. God may show you the need of someone that just needs you to spend time with him or her or do a chore that they are physically unable to do. God may challenge you to give away something that you were going to store or sell.
Today’s Challenge: Realize that when God shows you a need in a person’s life it is an opportunity to show love to them. Love is not just saying the right thing. Love springs into action to do what it can. Pray today and ask the Lord to allow you to love others well. |
