What is Shaping You?
By Greg Sanders
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Your life will be conformed to the greatest pressure in your life. You will be shaped by the external pressure from things on the outside or the internal pressure of the Holy Spirit on the inside. You can be shaped by the pressures of this life or by the purpose of God’s plan. The deciding factor of which pressure shapes you is determined by which pressure you yield to. We are either in the process of being transformed by the Holy Spirit or conformed to lesser things.
You can determine that what is around you will not get in you. In Joshua 14:8 Caleb said, “My brothers who went with me frightened the people from entering the Promised Land. For my part, I wholeheartedly followed the Lord my God.” One of the hardest things in life is to not let what is around you get into you. However, Caleb is a case study that proves you can allow what is in you to drive you to defy what is around you.
It is an understood principle that if you want to get better in business, hang out with people who are better at it than you are. If you want to get better in basketball, play with better players. The same works with the negative. Those negative things we fellowship with often have a way of getting into us. Fear did not get into Caleb’s life. Bitterness did not get into Caleb’s life. Hopelessness did not get into Caleb’s life. The things around you do not have to shape your life. You can be transformed by God’s power no matter what is going on around you.
Today’s Challenge: Determine to yield to the work of the Holy Spirit in you rather than conforming to the things around you. |
