Be an Example of Jesus
By Greg Sanders
A couple of weeks ago, I put an end table together for my dad. I knew I was in trouble when I opened the box and there was a multitude of small pieces and very few large pieces. After three hours of careful instruction by the manual I am happy to report that I succeeded in putting the thing together. However, I am convinced my success was the result of the instructions being in picture form instead of text form. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
Our world today needs to see a picture. I know they have the Word of God. I know that there are great preachers presenting the Word in various ways. However, I am convinced that the only thing that is going to grab the attention of many people is when they see God’s Word lived out in front of them. They need a picture. You and I can be that example.
Paul told Timothy to be an example to the world. Paul said in 1 Timothy 4:12, Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. This world needs an example of Jesus and you can exemplify Him through your speech, the way you live, your faith, and your purity.
Paul said again in Titus 2:7, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness.” All that you do is painting the picture of Jesus to your world. Therefore, let us insure that we are painting a good picture. This is not a demand for perfection but a plea to strive towards being the best example of Christ you can be. The truth is that the Jesus people see in you may be the only Jesus they ever experience. For that reason, set them an example by doing good.
Today’s Challenge: Give those around you today a good look at Jesus through your speech, your conduct, your love, your faith, and your integrity. |
