How to Find a Refuge in Troubling Times
By Greg Sanders
Psalms 62:5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. 8 O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Life can be full of unforeseen problems and unexpected opportunities. When such things occur it can be difficult to hear the word of God and discern His direction of your life. The times when His voice is needed most can also be the times when He seems to be the farthest away. The Psalmist gives us insight on where to turn when answers seem to be hard to find.
Get quiet before the Lord. Life is full of distractions and part of the purpose of distractions is to turn your gaze from focusing on Jesus. There many are times you have to quiet yourself. Life is not going to slow down and the enemy is not going to let up. Therefore you have to learn to settle yourself in His presence despite all the turmoil going on around you.
Remember He is your source. Only when you turn your attention from the urgent can you see the promise and the presence of the ultimate friend that never leaves you nor forsakes you. Your victory is not dependent on the circumstances around you or the resources you can muster up yourself. Your victory as a believer comes from your connection to the Father.
Pour out your heart to Him with confidence. Once you quiet yourself to sense His presence and you regain your confidence in Him as your source, you are in the perfect place to begin pouring your heart out to Him in faith. Pray to your Father with confidence that He hears you and He cares for you.
Today’s Challenge: Don’t wait for life to settle down so you can seek the will of God. Find a place to quiet yourself and focus on His faithfulness and His love and pour your needs out to the Lord. He is waiting to meet with you. |
