You Can Hear the Voice of God

You Can Hear the Voice of God

By Greg Sanders

There are a lot of different thoughts that people contemplate when they ponder the idea of God speaking to people. Some people do crazy things and say it is because God told them to do so. Other people do great things and attribute the wisdom and ability to the fact that God spoke to them. But some often say they have never heard God speak to them at all. Do you believe that God speaks to people today?

Amos 3:7 reads like this “Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets” God has chosen to reveal to His people what He is up to. I know what you are thinking. Greg that verse says He is just going to tell His prophets what He is up to. Isn’t that a small group of people? In the Old Testament it was a very small group of people. However when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us in Acts 2 it changed everything. All of God’s people were given the ability to function as a prophet. Sure there are still some people that have been especially gifted in that area. But that does not take away from the fact that each of us have been given the ability to hear what God is saying today.

There is one quick question I want to ask and answer. Why would God relegate Himself to speaking to people before He moves?

  1. He wants to speak to you. Think about it. He is God. He does not need your permission or your input but yet He has said that He will speak before He moves. I believe it is because He wants you in on what He is up to. He wants to communicate to you what is on His heart so that you will appreciate what He is doing.
  2. He wants to prepare you. God wants you to be ready to move with Him and be ready for His coming. It is the desire of God for His people to be ready to receive Him when He returns and to function with Him right now. Much of what He speaks through His word and through His Spirit is preparing us for the coming seasons in our lives.
  3. He wants to involve you. Following Jesus has never been a spectator sport. Following Jesus has always involved moving with Him. The final reason it is important to understand that God is speaking to us is so that we can be involved in what He is up to in the world today. He has the answer to the crises of your life and our society. He often speaks to His people those answers and strategies so we can be His hands and feet to our world.

God is speaking today. He desires to speak to you.

Today’s Challenge: Understand that if you are a follower of Jesus then you are qualified to hear His voice. He will speak to you. He speaks to us through His word and through His Spirit. Ask the Lord today to speak to you. He wants you in on what He is up to.

Blessings,

Greg
