Small Beginnings Please God
By Greg Sanders

Zechariah 4:10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin,…

Have you ever been guilty of procrastinating? When I was in school, I was an expert at waiting until the last minute to study, write a paper, or even head out for class in the morning. The best time to start a project was always the night before it was due. One reason this mode of operation worked just fine was because my professors never asked when I started or how long it took. The fact that they were not watching my progress along the way gave me permission to wait and start later. They did not care when I started; they just wanted me to finish on time.

God is watching our every move. However, He is not just concerned with our finish. God also finds pleasure in our journey. He is waiting for us to take the first step or the next step of obedience to His word. Zechariah recorded that when we begin, no matter how small it seems, it brings pleasure to the heart of God. That means when I put off following God I am delaying pleasure to the Father’s heart that He deserves and desires. Think about it this way, you can bring pleasure to the heart of God by following the small steps He speaks to your heart.

He speaks these steps to our heart through His word, through His Spirit, and sometimes even through the people in our lives. One thing is sure, when you follow Him, even in the small details, it brings pleasure to the heart of God.

Today’s Challenge: Realize you can bring pleasure to the heart of God by following the small steps He whispers to your life.
