Your Part is to Obey
By Greg Sanders
Genesis 17:9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility.”
Abraham received a promise that he and his wife Sarah would conceive a child even though both of them were about a hundred years old. This promise was so impossible that Abraham tried to talk God out of it first and then laughed about it second. This promise seemed so unlikely that even Abraham, the father of faith, took a moment to wrap his mind around it. Once he received it, God told him the part he was to play. His part was to simply obey.
Is there a promise in God’s word you want to see come to pass in your life? Has God spoken some promises about His will for your life to your heart? When we come into contact with His promises there is often a desire inside of us to help God out, speed Him up or do some of the heavy lifting for Him. God told Abraham, your part is to simply be faithful to the terms of the promise.
In your life today you are not responsible to make things happen, you are responsible to obey His word. It is your faithful obedience that puts you in position to receive the work that God has for you. You do not obey to earn God’s promise, you obey because that is your part. Obedience is the part that keeps you out of God’s way, assures He gets the glory and that His will is completed.
Today’s Challenge: If you are waiting on a miracle and do not know what to do remember that your part is to always stay true to His Word. |
